America needs talented, dedicated, and qualified teachers, like you. In recent years, American students have fallen far behind their foreign counterparts academically, specifically in the fields of science and mathematics. On the 2009 PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), a worldwide study conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the United States ranked 31 in math and 21 in science among 74 other nations tested. In 2011, President Obama issued a call to action challenging the nation to prepare 100,000 science, technology, engineering and math teachers over the next 10 years to support future American success in today’s competitive global economy (100kin10).
