ELA Bundle
Most successful candidates have used the ELA standard program to pass the exams, however we have had requsts by candidates to develop other tools specific to candidate needs. These aids were offered as optional opportunities to help the particular candidate. This bundle includes the ELA 100 Essential Literary Works Workbook and the ELA Quizbank. It does not include the ELA Writing Workshop (parts 1 and 2).
ELA 100 Essential Literary Works Workbook
The literature part of the exam is 70% of the multiple choice (you are STILL responsible for the ELA Exam Standards). Since you plan to teach English Language Arts, it is the expectation that you can teach these works.
The workbook is made up of 100 CORE works that a candidate would need to know at the minimum to pass the exam.
This book gives you the ability to pace yourself in a structured way. You pick a reasonable number of literary works to accomplish for each day you are studying so that you can feel a sense of accomplishment without becoming overwhelmed by the work.
There is one page for each literary work and there are different things to look for in each type of work: poetry, fiction, and non-fiction.
ELA Quizbank
An optional add-on resource for English Language Arts (ELA) candidates, the quiz bank targets the topics that people have missed the most on the actual exam.
Not included: ELA Writing Webinar (1 & 2) - $75
The English Language Arts Writing Webinars were developed as an optional add-on specifically targeting literary analysis and writing for the ELA exam.
ELA Writing Webinar Part 1: Analyzing Literature demonstrates how to identify literary devices and other elements of literature. These are essential skills when preparing for the ELA exam. Did you know that 72% of the exam is comprehension of texts?
ELA Webinar Part 2: Writing for the ELA prepares candidates for the challenging task of writing a five paragraph essay based on literary interpretation.
The English Language Arts Writing Webinars equips candidates with the necessary tools to pass the writing component.

There are no "extenuating circumstances" which will result in an exception to these policies.
Retake Exams
Applies to Certification candidates only
Your fee includes your first attempt at all exams that are part of that program. In the event you fail one or more of the exams, you must purchase a retake at a cost of $195 if you wish to attempt the exam again. This fee includes:
- Exam appointment with Pearson VUE
- Advising services available upon request
- 6 month extension of the enrollment period.
Note that your initial enrollment period of 1 year cannot be extended beyond 2 years. Once you reach the 2 year point, you must purchase an enrollment extension. These are available for 6 months at a cost of $145.
Candidates are eligible for two retakes of a failed exam. In other words, candidates may take any one examination a maximum of 3 times (first attempt plus two retakes). After 3 failed attempts, candidates must choose a new subject area or pursue a different route to certification.
Installment Payment Plan
Applies to Certification candidates only
ABCTE offers a payment plan for new candidates. If you are looking for a flexible way to join the program, use this plan to divide the fee into eight monthly installment payments. Pricing for installment plans is the current subject certification price plus an installment program fee for financing and administrative costs.
For more details on the plan, an FAQ to answer any questions you may have, and forms to be completed and faxed for enrollment by installment, see our ABCTE Payment Plan.
